Mary Magdalene Good was born 23 July 1890 in Concord, TN to Henry H. and Susan (Ressler) Good. She was the youngest of eleven children, nine of whom grew to maturity. She received a BA degree from [[Goshen College (Goshen, Indiana, USA)|Goshen College]] in 1919 and an MA degree from George Peabody College for Teachers in 1936.
