The Gesangbuch für Mennonitengemeinden in Kirche und Haus was the second German songbook of the Mennonite churches of West Prussia, published in 1869 to replace the Gesangbuch, in welchem eine Sammlung . . . and the original Geistreiches Gesangbuch . . . . The book had 700 hymns, a collection of prayers, and indexes to which in the fourth edition (1901) were added 40 religious folk songs and Psalms of the Prussian Mennonite Choralbuch, published in 1898. This songbook was widely used among the Mennonites of Russia and America. The first three editions (Danzig 1869 and 1873, Elbing 1888) consisted of 8,000 copies and the fourth (Gütersloh 1901) and fifth (1922, n.p.) of 6,000 copies.
