Gerbrand (Gerbrandt), a Mennonite family name occurring first in 1711 in Danzig, 1727 in the Danzig area, especially at Einlage and Walldorf. Gerbrand (Gerbrandt), a Mennonite family name occurring first in 1711 in Danzig, 1727 in the Danzig area, especially at Einlage and Walldorf. Before World War II there were only nine Mennonites with this name who lived in the region of Elbing and Thiensdorf-Rosenbart. Jakob Gerbrandt of the Ufa settlement in Russia was appointed as traveling elder about 1910, and served widely scattered settlements in Siberia with baptismal services, ordinations, and communion. John Gerbrandt was an elder of the Drake Mennonite Church, and his son, Jakob Gerbrandt, was secretary of the Canadian Mennonite Board of Colonization.
