Friedenshort was the second of the three homes for the aged operated by the German Mennonite organization known as Mennonitische Heime, e.V. in the late 1950s, primarily for the care of aged Mennonite refugees from West Prussia. Founded in 1950 through the leasing and renovation of a large building, it had a capacity of some 75. The home was self-supporting through a per capita per diem grant from the government, aided by Mennonite Central Committee food contributions.
