Fredeshiem (Steenwijk, Overijssel, Netherlands)

Fredeshiem (House of Peace; now Buitengoed Fredeshiem) was a Dutch Mennonite brotherhood home (Broederschapshuis; retreat center) in a lovely wooded spot about three miles east of Steenwijk, province of Overijssel. It was built in 1929 and was used in the early 1950s as a recreation center, convalescent home, and a quiet place for all who want rest. Sometimes conferences were also held here, e.g., by the Dutch Mennonite Peace Group. It is open throughout the year and had  in the 1950s a capacity of about one hundred guests. It was managed by a committee of five members.
