Frederik III, King of Denmark and Norway (1609-1670)
Frederik III (Frederick), King of Denmark and Norway, 1648-1670, was born 18 March 1609, a younger son of King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway (1577-1648) and Anne Catherine of Brandenburg (1575-1612). He succeeded his father as king in 1648 due to the death of his older brother, Christian, a year earlier.
In 1664 Frederik elevated Altona to the rank of a city. He granted the Mennonites the privileges they had formerly enjoyed under the counts of Schauenburg, as his father had also done.
Frederik died 19 February 1670 and was succeeded by his son, Christian V (1646-1699).
