Frederik III (Frederick), King of Denmark and Norway, 1648-1670, was born 18 March 1609, a younger son of King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway (1577-1648) and Anne Catherine of Brandenburg (1575-1612). He succeeded his father as king in 1648 due to the death of his older brother, Christian, a year earlier.
