Volkmar Fischer, an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] peasant of Rohrborn, a village in the district of Erfurt, Hesse, [[Germany|Germany]], baptized by [[Römer, Hans (16th century) |Hans Römer]], apparently took part in an attack on Erfurt, escaped all persecution, arrived at [[Basel (Switzerland)|Basel]], where he stayed in the home of Michael Schürer, a tailor from Freiburg.
