In 1883 Mennonites from Henry County, Iowa, located south of Fairmount, Prairie County, Arkansas, and organized a Mennonite Brethren in Christ church, with John Krupp of Iowa serving as the first minister. Christian Bechler was an influential member of the congregation and many of the meetings were held in his home. The congregation had approximately 50 members in 1891 but was discontinued in 1899.
