Eyckenplancken (Oak Planks)

Eyckenplancken (Oak Planks) was a nickname for Mennonites of the Netherlands, presumably because of their steadfastness or perhaps for their simplicity in manners and dress. The expression is found in a writing of Franciscus Lansbergen, Van de vremde ende onschrijtmatighe maniere der Wederdoopscher Leeraren heymelycke gebeden, . . . (Rotterdam, 1596). Which group or denomination of the Mennonites was meant is not clear.
