Eussestal (Baden-Württemberg, Germany)

Eussestal (Eysestal), a parish of Germersheim, Baden, Germany, the location of the Eussestal monastery. Here and on the estates of Breitwieserhof, Hilspach, Stadtwies, Laubenwald, Oberbergerwies, and Lautertal, Swiss Mennonites had settled by the 1720s. A 1720 directory of Schafsweiden mentions the name Wohlgemuth. In 1724 the Germersheim lists name "four poor Anabaptists, who are temporary renters." One, named Bauer, was the monastery miller. In the course of the 18th century these names occur: Schneider, Zuber, Herzler, Müller, Gingerich, Christmann, Eschelberger, and Draxel (records of the Palatinate, Generallandesarchiv at Karlsruhe).
