Emmen, a town (1947 population, 55,500, with 175 Mennonites; 2007 population, 108,863; coordinates: 52.783333, 6.883333 [52° 47' 0" N, 6° 53' 0" E]) in the Dutch province of [[Drenthe (Netherlands)|Drenthe]]. In 1879 there were about 100 Mennonites here, most of whom seem to have joined the Baptist Church which arose here at this time (<em>Doopsgezinde Bijdragen</em>  1894, 85). In 1939 the Mennonites living here, having held occasional meetings in the preceding years, organized a Mennonite fellowship (<em>Kring</em>). About 30 members joined. From 1942 the group met in a school building, then once a month in a room of the Reformed Church, and in 1956 in a rented hall.
