The Elton Mission was established at the 1899 session of the [[Southwestern Pennsylvania Mennonite Conference (MC)|Southwestern Pennsylvania Mennonite Conference]] held at Rockton, Pennsylvania, with L. A. Blough being responsible for the work. In 1900 the group purchased the Dunmyer Lutheran Church building and leased the land for 10 years for one dollar. In 1901 it was reported that the mission had become an organized congregation. In 1903 the Sunday school was started with David Stull as superintendent.

The Mennonite Yearbook and Directory (1906-1908) listed Elton Mennonite Church with 24 members, Alexander Weaver, preacher, and D. S. Yoder, deacon. In 1910 the Lutheran Church was dismantled and a new building was erected on property about one half mile east, donated by Levi Knavel. The name of the church was then changed to [[Pleasant Grove Mennonite Church (Salix, Pennsylvania, USA)|Pleasant Grove Mennonite Church]] because of the pleasant grove of trees around the new building.
