Dallas, Oregon, is a city (pop. 12,500 in 2000) in Polk County, located in the northwestern part of the state. Mennonites first came to this community the early 1890s. At one time there were three Mennonite congregations in Dallas, affiliated respectively with the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren, General Conference Mennonite and Mennonite Brethren conferences, with a combined membership in the 1950s of about one thousand members. In 2007 there were no churches in the city that explicitly identified themselves as Mennonite. The former Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church is now part of the Fellowship of Evangelical Bible Churches (the former EMB Conference), the Grace Community Church (formerly part of the General Conference Mennonite Church) is now an independent congregation, and the Mennonite Brethren church closed in 2004.
