Dachau is a district of Upper Bavaria northwest of Munich, where Mennonites settled in considerable numbers from 1818 to the middle of the nineteenth century. Most of the families came from the Palatinate, and settled chiefly in the northwestern part of the Dachau district, founding the Eichstock congregation. Emigration to America and to other places decreased the size of the congregation, so that by the 1950s there were only a few families remaining.
