Van Dühren (von Dühren, von Düren, von Dihren, Dieren) is one of the oldest of the Dutch Mennonite families who immigrated into [[Prussia|Prussia]]. Most of the van Dührens lived in [[Danzig (Poland)|Danzig]] and were numerous in the Mennonite congregation there; formerly there were also some in [[Königsberg (Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia)|Königsberg]] and [[Elbing (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Poland)|Elbing]]. Hendrik van Dühren served as elder of the [[Frisian Mennonites|Frisian church]] on Neugarten in Danzig, 1676-1694; his oldest son Albrecht succeeded him until 1696, and after his untimely death the younger son Hendrik (or Heinrich) served, 1701-1746. During the eldership of this Hendrik van Dühren a number of difficulties arose in the congregation, mostly caused, or at least aggravated, by his obstinacy and extreme conservatism. In 1739 he refused to ordain Johan Donner, who had been chosen as elder. Finally two elders from Holland, [[Koenen, Abraham (18th century)|Abraham Koenen]] and [[Ouwejan, Jacob (1706-1781)|Jacob Ouwejans]], in 1740-1741, succeeded in settling the quarrels. Other members of the family have served as preachers (e.g., [[Dühren, Isaac van (1725-1800)|Isaac van Dühren]]<em>) </em>and on the council. The name did not spread beyond Berlin and Prussia.
