Coster, Franciscus (1532-1619)

Franciscus Coster (Costerus), a Jesuit priest, was the author of Toetsteen van de versierde Apostolische Successie eens wederdoopers Jacob Pieterssen van der Molen (Antwerp, 1603). Jacob P. van der Meulen had published a theological work on the Apostolic Succession, in which he had written that not the Roman Catholics, but the Mennonites possessed the true apostolic succession, because they maintained the doctrine of the apostles. Coster tried to refute the thesis of van der Meulen in his Toetsteen, and was answered by van der Meulen, who wrote Vertoogh aen de Successoirs des Jesuijts, 1604.
