Congresos Menonitas Latinoamericanos (Latin American Mennonite Conferences). The first regional conference for Mennonite groups in Latin America was held at Bogotá, Colombia, 12-18 February 1968. It was followed by meetings atMontevideo, Uruguay , 11-15 July 1972; Alajuela, Costa Rica, 8-12 July 1975; San Antonio, Tex., 19-22 July 1978; and Bogotá, Colombia, 5-6 November 1982. The theme of the fifth and last conference was "Violence and Peace in Our Midst."

Experience showed that regional conferences for smaller areas of Latin America would prove more beneficial. The first Congreso Menonita Latinoamericano for the Southern Cone (Cono Sur) took place at Bragado, Argentina ( Buenos Aires), 10-13 December 1981, under the theme, "The Non-Violent Stance and the Church's Task of Reconciliation." Following conferences were at Palmeira, Paraná¡, Brazil, Jan. 26-28, 1984 ("How to Live as Mennonite Churches in Today's Latin America"); Baleneario Argentina, Uruguay , 30 January-2 February 1986 ("Principles for the Mission of the Church in Latin America"); and Areguá, Paraguay, 8-11 July 1987 ("The Church as a Visible Sign of the Kingdom").
