Buys (also Buis) is a common Dutch family name which is also found among the Mennonites. Evert Buys is mentioned in 1688 as preacher of the Mennonite congregation at [[Brielle (Zuid-Holland, Netherlands)|Brielle]] (<em>Inv. Arch. Amst.</em>).
