Johann Christian Burgmann, professor at the University of Rostock (from 1754), Germany, in 1733 wrote a thesis on Obbe Philips and the Obbenites (full title: "Commentatio Historico-ecclesiastica. De Ubbone Philippi et Ubbonistis, subjecta brevi disquisitione de habitu doctrinae Mennonitarum"). A copy of this thesis is in the [[Amsterdam Mennonite Library (Bibliotheek en Archief van de Vereenigde Doopsgezinde Gemeente te Amsterdam)|Amsterdam Mennonite Library]]. By the same author is the book De historiae mennoniticae fontibus et subsidiis (Rostock, 1732) (Sources and Resources of Mennonite History), which is also to be found in the Amsterdam Library. In these two writings Burgmann proves himself to be an excellent authority on Mennonite history.
