Henry Heisey Brubaker, a distinguished Brethren in Christ Church leader and missionary statesman, was born 21 July 1900 near Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Henry B. and Annie Heisey Brubaker. He attended Messiah Bible School (later Messiah College) and went to Africa in August 1922. In 1926 he married Grace Book, and they had two children: Ronald and Edna, wife of Lee Schroeder.

Brubaker served 29 years in Africa and was General Superintendent and Bishop of the Northern and Southern Rhodesia mission fields (Zambia and Zimbabwe respectively). During that time he was also president of the Southern Rhodesia Missionary Conference and the church's representative on the government Advisory Board for African Education.

When he retired from the mission field, he served his church as president of Niagara Christian College in Ontario and as superintendent of the Messiah Home, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. For 10 years he was secretary for the General Conference (BIC) and made a vital contribution to the development of its structure. He died in Upland, California on 20 August 1972.
