Bosch, de, family
The de Bosch Mennonite family came from Amsterdam. The progenitor of this family was Jeronimo de Bosch (I), who died in Spain in 1666, where he was poisoned because of the frank confession of his faith. All the members of the de Bosch family were interested in art, and many of them were skilled in drawing, painting, and writing poetry.
Some of the outstanding members were Jeronimo de Bosch II (1677-1767), apothecary and owner of a beautiful collection of drawings; Bernardus de Bosch I; Johannes de Bosch (1713-1785), who made drawings and copied paintings; Hendrik de Bosch (1720-1772), Amsterdam city physician and Latin poet; Jeronimo de Bosch III; Bernardus de Bosch II (1742-1816), owner of a fine collection of art, and poet; Goris de Bosch (1751-1804), also greatly interested in literature and painting. Jeronimo de Vries, a Mennonite minister, was a descendant of the de Bosch family.
