Lambert Bidloo, b. 30 August 1638, at Amsterdam; d. there 11 June 1724, was a brother of Govert Bidloo. He was a very accomplished man, having mastered many languages, both ancient and modern; by profession an apothecary. During his old age he wrote several books of rather mediocre verse. He wrote in Latin a treatise on botany.

Bidloo belonged to the conservative Mennonites, was a member of the Zonist congregation at Amsterdam, and a deacon at this church after 1700. The growing progressiveness and particularly Mennonite contacts with the Collegiants was for him an occasion to present a warning against excessive toleration. In 1701 at Amsterdam (reprinted in 1742) appeared Onbepaalde verdraagzaamheyd de verwoesting der Doopsgezinden (Unlimited Toleration the Ruination of the Mennonites). Though the book was published anonymously, everyone knew who the author was. In this book Bidloo admonished the Mennonites to remain loyal to the doctrine found in the old confessions of faith. This book was a kind of history of the Mennonites in the 17th century, and was significant for an understanding of the conflict between the Zonists and the Lamists or Galenists. When Kornelis van Hoek replied in De Christelijke verdraagzaamheit verdedigt tegens Herman Schijn en L. Bidloo (Christian Toleration Defended against Herman Schijn and L. Bidloo) (Amsterdam, 1701), Bidloo wrote Ongebonden licentie de grondslag der Rijnsburgsche Vergadering (Unrestrained License the Basis of the Rhynsburger group) (Amsterdam, 1702). Schijn also wrote an answer. To these replies van Hoek was provoked to a later defense in Nader verdediging (Further Defense).

Bidloo had earlier taken sides in the Lammerenkrijgh in his book: Mennoos Kerck, in en uyt Babel, ofte den Aenvang, Voortgang en redderinge van de Verwarringen der Vlaemsche Doopsgezinden, . . . (Amsterdam, 1665).
