Bethel Gospel Camp (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada)
In the mid 1930s in the area of Barnes Crossing and Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan a mini revival impacted many local people, including Mennonites. Under the leadership of Peter B. Friesen (1899-1985) of the Immanuel Mennonite Church, then also known as the Barns Crossing Mennonite Church, a large tent was purchased and for the next seven years week-long summer Bible conferences were held with invited speakers, Bible study and singing. In 1945, after the summer conference, the leadership decided to change from a tent-based conference to a lakeshore summer-long camping experience focusing on families and children with wide community participation. Four local churches, Immanuel Mennonite Church now know as the Compass Immanuel Church, Meadow Lake Evangelical Free Church, Meadow Lake Alliance Church and the Northwest Community Church were the founding congregations.
In 1946 a temporary family camp was set up at the Loon Forks area near Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, using the old tent plus a few smaller tents. The following year a bush site on the south shore of Jeannette Lake, Saskatchewan, was acquired, cleared and used in 1948. During the first years tents were still used, but gradually the camp thrived and modern facilities and accommodations were developed. The camp is set on the lake shore in the Saskatchewan boreal forest with a sandy beach and clear lake water. Jeannette Lake is in Meadow Lake Provincial Park and about 30 km north, northeast of the village of Dorintosh, Saskatchewan. In 2010 Bethel Gospel Camp was a modern, well equipped Christian camp with a summer long program used by children, youth and families.

Loon Forks
Loon Forks is in the rural municipality of Meadow Lake, RM 588. The rural post office existed from 1925-1941 and was located at SE32-60-18-W3, northwest of Meadow Lake and near the confluence of the Makwa (Loon) and Beaver Rivers. In the Cree language Makwa means “Loon.”
