Berendge (or Beerenthien Beerentsdochter), an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr, executed at [[Leeuwarden (Friesland, Netherlands)|Leeuwarden]], Dutch province of [[Friesland (Netherlands)|Friesland]], 2 May 1553, together with [[Thijs Hendriksz (d. 1553)|Tijs]]<em>. </em>She had poor health and was mostly confined to her bed. But her faith was sound and strong and she refused to recant, but persisted to the bitter end. She was secretly drowned in the town moat, being bound in a sack and thrown from a boat.
