<em>Bekentenisse des Gheloofs, na Godes Woordt: also deselvighe van vele jaren herwaert, ende noch teghenwoordich, by diemen Mennisten nocmt, gelooft, geleert ende beleeft wort. </em>This [http://www.anabaptistwiki.org/mediawiki/index.php/The_Confession_of_Faith_(P.J._Twisck,_1617) confession] is found in the <em>Historie der warachtighe getuygen Jesu Christi . . . sint het Jaer 1524 tot desen tyt toe, </em>etc. (Hoorn, 1617). This edition of the [[Martyr Books|martyr-book]] was a reprint of the 1615 (first) edition, en titled <em>Historie der Martelaren, </em>of which the introduction (by [[Ries, Hans de (1553–1638)|Hans de Ries]]) was omitted and replaced by an unsigned <em>Voorrede </em>and the <em>Bekentenisse des Gheloofs, </em>also unsigned. The confession consists of 33 articles, followed by some extracts from [[Menno Simons (1496-1561)|Menno Simons]] and [[Dirk Philips (1504-1568)|Dirk Philips ]] concerning the Trinity and the Incarnation. It is strongly orthodox in character. [[Twisck, Pieter Jansz (1565-1636)|P. J. Twisck]] and [[Pieters, Syvaert (16th - 17th century)|Sieuwert Pietersz]] composed both the <em>Voorrede </em>and the confession <em>(Bibliotheca Reformatoria Neerlandica </em>VII, 155; <em>Doopsgezinde Bijdragen</em> 1870, 72). Though the confession was a private undertaking, not authorized by the church, it had great influence among the Old Frisians, to which group the authors belonged, and it was often considered the official confession of this denomination. It was reprinted in the <em>Historie van de Vrome Getuygen Jesu Christi </em>(Hoorn, 1626), and the [[Braght, Tieleman Jansz van (1625-1664)|van Braght]][[Martyrs' Mirror|<em> Martyrs Mirror </em>]]in all its Dutch, German, and English editions. A separate edition was published at Hoorn (1620). An English translation was published in 1837 at Winchester, Virginia, as <em>The Confession of Faith of the Christians Known by the Name of Mennonites, in Thirty-Three Articles with a Short Extract from their Catechism. Translated from the German, and accompanied with notes.</em>
