Becker (Bekker, Backer) family

Becker, a Mennonite family name in West Prussia which appeared in the Old Flemish congregations and in the Danzig Flemish congregation, was first mentioned in Danzig in 1671. In West Prussia four families of this name were listed in 1776 (without Danzig), and six persons in 1935 (without Elbing). Members of this family also immigrated to Russia (Molotschna) and North America. The name Becker is not to be confused with Becher, Bächer (18 persons in West Prussia in 1935), etc., a Mennonite family name in the Frisian congregations of Danzig and Montau, nor with Petker, Boettcher, Petcher, etc., a family name of the Frisian Montau congregation.
