Baetken Crauwels, an Anabaptist martyr, wife of Jan Poote, was burned at the stake on 30 April 1569 at Antwerp, with Maeyken Christians. Baetken was 50 years of age and had been married in the congregation eight years before by Joos de Cruysere, having been rebaptized shortly before in the woods near Wilrijck, close to Antwerp, by Joachim Vermeeren. She was tortured on 5 May but held fast to her baptismal vows, stating that infant baptism was unscriptural.
