Aspisheim (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)

Asphisheim is a town in Rhenish Hesse, where there were Mennonites as early as 1664. According to the oldest register of Mennonites in the Palatinate (State archives in Karlsruhe), seven Mennonite families with 34 members, probably Swiss emigrants, had settled there. Their names were Fried, Lenz, Bliem, Bohrn and Steffens. By 1680 there were only three families with 11 children. After 1744 the town is no longer mentioned in the registers. It is not known whether they were a congregation in themselves, or worshiped with the church at Ibersheim.
