Anneken Jans, an Anabaptist martyr of Woerden in the Dutch province of South Holland, was living in Middelburg, in the Dutch province of Zeeland, where she was burned at the stake on 3 December 1571, because she had been rebaptized, and notwithstanding the teaching of learned theologians "remained stubborn and obstinate in her error, false opinions, and heresy."
