Altenheim (Gretna, Manitoba, Canada)

Altenheim (Home for the Aged) of the Bergthal Mennonite Church in Gretna, Manitoba, was started in July 1918 and continued in operation until July 1938. During its existence it was under the supervision of Deacon John Buhr, Gretna. Five or six appointed persons served the institution at various times. The number of residents varied from 10 to 25. After July 1938, although still the property of the Bergthal Church, the building was used as one of the girls' dormitories of the Mennonite Collegiate Institute of Gretna.
