Allukrainische Konferenz der Vertreter der Mennonitengemeinden in der USSR
Allukrainische Konferenz der Vertreter der Mennonitengemeinden in der USSR convened as a last general conference on a regional scale in Melitopol, Ukraine, 5-9 October 1926. The program indicates that the leaders were fully aware of their task and prepared to meet the challenge of the day. A total of 84 representatives met, mostly of the Ukraine, 64 of who were Mennonites and 19 Mennonite Brethren and Evangelical Mennonite Brethren. Fourteen representatives came from outside the Ukraine: Samara 3, Caucasus 2, Crimea 2, Siberia 3, Orenburg 2, Ufa 1, and Turkestan 1. Two government representatives were present.
The chairmen of the Conference were Jakob Rempel, Johann Töws, Peter Nickel, and Jakob Pätkau. First the Kommission für Kirchenangelegenheiten (KfK) gave a report, after which the delegates to the First Mennonite World Conference reported. Local reports from various communities followed. Considerable time was devoted to the constitution of the Conference, a proposed Bible school, the spiritual life of the congregations, work among the young people, proposed publications (songbooks and Unser Blatt), and mission work.
Highly interesting and informative are the brief reports given by the representatives from the settlements of Molotschna, Chortitza, Zagradovka, Memrik, etc. The proposed constitution was unanimously accepted. Various significant lectures were presented. The total number of Mennonites of the Ukraine given for 1926 was 46,829.
