Van Aldewerelt (Alderwerelt) is a Dutch Mennonite family, whose ancestor Cornelis van Alderwerelt fled from Meenen in Belgium ca.1580 to Middelburg in the Dutch province of Zeeland, where he was a cloth merchant and probably a deacon of the church. He was married to Cathelijne Pleviers (Plovier), who may have been a daughter of the martyr Lenaert Plovier. Their son Jan van Aldewerelt moved to Amsterdam, where he and his descendants were cloth merchants. Some of them were members of the Flemish congregation, others joined the Waterlanders. Salomon van Alderwerelt (ca. 1624-1679) was one of the authors of Ontdeckte Veinzing (1655), two pamphlets published anonymously against Galenus Abrahamsz. The van Alderwerelt family left the Mennonite Church in the early 18th century.
