The Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, Manistique, Schoolcraft County, Michigan, began in 1951 as a mission outpost of the Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Mission Board in the Upper Peninsula. It initially met in the Kendall School. The following year, Leonard E. Schmucker was ordained as pastor, and a basement for a church building was completed about five miles northeast of Manistique. The congregation completed the building several years later.

On 24 August 1922, Cedar Grove withdrew from the Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference and Mennonite Church USA. In its letter of withdrawal, it expressed concern about resolutions passed by Mennonite Church USA regarding LGBTQ+ inclusion.
